Embrace the snood — it’s sure to turn heads

It’s not often I take fashion cues from toddlers. But when the temperatures plummeted this week, I decided to adopt an item that is considered a must-have among the cohort of under-fives I see queueing up for nursery next to my morning coffee spot. The question is: can a grown-up really pull off a snood?

No, not that sort of snood. The looped neck warmer you might wear to walk the dog isn’t what the style set is hot under the (knitted) collar about this winter. It’s fashion’s snoods I am referring to: less scarf, more knitted balaclava/bonnet, covering the ears, forehead and neck but leaving a circle open for the face. Some have zips, others a button fastening under the chin or drawstring ties.
